A long due entry. But here’s how I celebrated my 18th birthday.
On 22nd of June itself I invited my closest friends to my place for a simple home cooked meal. And when I say home cook it means I’m the one who’s cooking.
Early in the morning, after physio, my mum took me to the morning market to get the ingredients.
Came home, laid the stuff out, looked at my mum and said ‘Ma, I think we over did it’ She laughed and said ‘yeah I think so too’
So the plan was to cook for 5 friends plus my mum and I. That goes up to 7 people.
And that’s a lot, right?
Considering I normally just pop myself a bowl of vegetarian soup or just fix myself a salad or worse microwaved Maggi Mee. Very ambitious I know, I also scared myself a bit.
I was going to take pictures of everything I did cause I super proud lah. But in the end I was so busy because there was so many things to be done and so stressed because the so many things to be done was not looking like they’re about to be done (wah, long sentence XD) I just gave up.
But I’ll tell you what I cooked lah.
- This appetizer thing with prawn, avocado, water chestnut and mango in a stick. The prawn was marinated in chopped coriander leaves, olive oil and lemon juice.
- Side dish was salad consisting of chicken, apple, lettuce, cherry tomato, you know what I can’t remember.
- Main course was pasta with home brewed tomato paste, home fried minced meat (plus muchroom) and basil leaf (but no one layaned the basil haha)
- Dessert was fruit and ice cream.
- For drinks you should really REALLY try this. Peel lemons like they’re orange (remove the skin) and juice the whole thing. Combine the proportion of 1/5 lemon juice and 4/5 Ice Cream Soda and it taste great when it is chilled :D
But I didn’t take any pictures of any of the above too. Cause K was too hungry he sorta ate everything before I could start, haha. Nevertheless I had a very good time with my best mates.
Especially when L and J was with me on that green patch of grass beside the pool just being ourselves and talking like any other day. It was so ordinary and just normal, but that appeals to me more than anything else. Just me and my friends, so comfortable I don’t have to be anyone but myself.
The day was just like how I wanted it to be. Joanna made me the most heartfelt gift I’ve ever received. She made a mixtape of songs that has our memories of being friends since Form 2. She even does an introduction before each song, it was really funny but warming when I hear her voice. Thanks to Lu for the scented candle too, my mum says she’ll find a way to make it useful (:
The next day I was out with L to catch up after her big adventure at National Service and also to do some shopping for my party. Here’s a photo.
So this year’s celebration was good because I get to spend time with people I love on the exact date of my birthday (:
