Some time ago, Melinda and her Buddhist youth group started a project called Project Love. Project Love help teens meet up to visit orphanages once a month. Aside from bringing food and supplies, their aim is to send some love to the orphans.
While M was there, she had a great idea to give the children her Iloveyou cards. This is taken from M’s blog in explanation of what happened,
“ I took one piece out, held my Parker pen and asked the girl what was her name. She took my pen and scribbled into my note book : Sally. I wrote carefully on the red piece of card : Sally. Then I admired her for a moment, then continued : is beautiful.
Slowly, one by one, they came up to me and asked for one… … I asked her (Jennifer) to look at me so that I could admire her. She looked at me then smiled. Right at that moment, all her features lit up. Though her eyes were small and squinty, I thought she had the best smile in the home… …
These kids thirst so much for attention that they are willing to do almost anything to catch your glance. Some fought, some screamed, some insulted, some danced.. they all had their own ways of attracting attention. So, I guess when I wrote them those cards, it was a moment where they felt someone took a minute of their life to appreciate them. “ M in her blog post, sharing love starting small
Her written experience has touched me deeply. These children, they are grateful for a short minute of appreciation. By comparison, our constant complains regarding our inadequacy seems like a big bad joke because in reality, we’re very much blessed and loved compared to others.
Unable to take part in Project Love, I’ve decided to make some cards for M to write on during her visit to the next orphanage. What I did yesterday & today:
Being me, the cards have names. The light green series is called Polka Tree; the dark green Miscellaneous Mint; & the yellow The Seventh Sun. There are around 120 pieces and I had a lot of fun making it, every one contains a little of my love and hope for the children. (I would have done a better design, but mass production takes too much work!)
ps. I strongly believe that whatever I do for life should be something contributing to the society. I don’t know what it is yet but I am praying for God’s guidance (:
great things come small. Great people come in great hearts (:
