My second quote card.
‘You were born an original, don’t die a copy’, this quote has similar taste as the quote, ‘you can follow the crowd but you might get lost in it’.
Lou told me last night that I should stop pleasing people.
I do agree with her, because me not wanting to disappoint others and not knowing how to say ‘no’ has brought me many sticky situations. Very often my life is in a mess, because I worry that people will look at me differently if I reject them. Only recently have I ask myself ‘What do you want Briana?’
Things were simpler when you were young.
As a toddler, you knew what you wanted and you knew what to do.
You cry when you want milk, you tell your mum when you want popcorn, you don’t talk to someone just because you don’t like them, you cry at strangers because you are afraid of them. You answered to what your ‘self’ wants.
Things get complicated as you grow up. I can’t ignore the person just because I don’t like her. I can’t turn down a date because I know how badly the person wants to watch that movie. I feel so tired but I can’t stop giving you attention because the sad you says how badly you need it.
We should all take some time, to ask the ourselves.
Stand in front of the mirror, look deep into your own eyes, and ask
’What do you want?’
If you don’t know what you want, a better way to start is by asking yourself
’What do I need?’
I believe you can still tell the truth (in my case, saying no) in a subtle and polite manner. There’s a difference being honest and being straightforward.
Lou told me last night that I should stop pleasing people.
She said, ‘be more selfish’
I think I won’t be selfish, but I will definitely find a balance between my own needs and what others ask of me.
ps. I realized the photo of my first quote-card was too dark, so I’ve changed another photo ( refer yesterday’s entry). Hopefully you can see the patterns at right clearer.
